Trend | How to Spice Up Your Makeup Look 3 Different Ways in China, Japan and Korea
Updated: Nov 22, 2021
We often hear our friends saying that their makeup looks are boring, even though they use a variety of products and new colors, but it still looks the same every day and there is no difference.
Today, let's do something interesting: we'll teach you how to do the three distinct makeup looks of China, Japan, and South Korea!
Now, no matter which country you are in, the makeup looks are becoming more and more personalized, according to each country’s cosmetic preferences. The picture below shows three current makeup templates for China, Japan, and South Korea.
Chinese Style:
In China, due to the large population and abundant culture, everyone does makeup in a very different way! It’s quite difficult to find the "Chinese daily style”, so let’s go for a more dramatic effect.
We picked a look from the TV drama from Ruyi's Love in the Palace. The overall makeup of Zhou Xun is very simple, mainly highlighting the eyebrow shape and lip color, with an aristocratic feeling.
We can't imitate Zhou Xun's aura, we can only replicate the makeup look.
Key Points:
The position of the eyebrows in this look is very special. Usually, our brows are drawn in line with the eyes, but in this makeup look, the eyebrows have been deliberately moved further back to create a more distinct and wider face.
The eyeliner is just a simple outline of the upper lash line; add a pearl tint to the lower lash line, and lightly pat a faint shadow to the lower eyelid, blending upwards.
Apply a warm-toned lipstick and don't overline your lips -- emphasize your cupid's bow with a sharp and defined lip liner.
Tie the hair back and add hair sticks, for a final effect like this:
Japanese Style:
The following picture is a great representation of the current beauty trends in Japanese makeup:
The main colour palette consists of a light nude beige, pale pink, apricot and orange tones in the highlighted areas of the face, and the diluted presence of makeup products. Overall the model looks innocent, natural, and clean.
Key Points:
A light and natural base makeup is needed -- use a cushion foundation for maximum glowiness!
Eye shadow, blush, and lipstick must have the same tone and apply lightly to the face.
The eyebrows consist of a two-part drawing method: the front part is gray-black and the tail of the eyebrow is a reddish-brown. TIP: use an eyebrow pen to create the illusion of thicker eyebrows with fine strokes in the front part of the eyebrow. Colour using eyebrow gel and browcara.
The eyelashes must be curled upwards, but the mascara should be applied lightly. Try using brown mascara for a gentler look!
The essence of Japanese makeup lies in the position of the blush. Apply to the cheek, under the center of the eyes, then smudge upwards, and it must be higher than the tip of the nose. This lifts up the face and creates an illusion of smiling cheeks.
The final product should look like the picture above! Finish your Japanese makeup look with straight hair, or add braids to look even younger!
South Korean Style:
In South Korean beauty trends, the K-pop idol look is most often emulated. We've chosen HyunA's representative red-lip smolder to replicate today! Her iconic big eyes and small face are very popular.
Key Points
Apply a matte true-red lipstick; draw the lower lip round and full, and make sure the upper lip's cupid bow is not strongly defined.
The eye shadow has a large contour range, and the upper and lower eye shadows should be blended out to create a wider shadow, and it should have a sense of upward movement.
Line the entire eye, making sure that the upper and lower lash line are both defined. The end of the eyeliner is pulled up and elongated, similar to the European and American style.
The eyebrows are dark in color, raised upwards, and the ends of the eyebrows are slender and lined. What is special is that her eyebrows are more straight than angular.
Remember to add a mole right under your eyes for that special beauty mark.
